Thank you to all who have taken part in Woof Factor 2011. Photos have now been sent to the judges

Oldies Club is celebrating older dogs! We are holding a fundraising photo competition for the third year running especially for dogs age 7 and over. The winning dog will represent the Oldies Club for the following year. The only rule for this competition is that dogs entering need to be veterans, they do not necessarily need to be rescue dogs to enter.

We have divided the UK up into 7 regions (North East, North West, South East, South West, Midlands, Scotland and Wales. The winner of each region will go forward to the Grand Final.


The competition will run for the month of March, closing at 9pm on Thursday 31st March 2011.

PLEASE don’t leave it till the last minute and risk missing out!!

How to Enter

Entry cost is £2 per entry (one photograph per entry). You may have as many entries as you wish. Payment can be made by Paypal or cheque.

Our address for Paypal is paypal@oldies.org.uk Please can you state when sending the money that it is for WOOF FACTOR, who you are and which photos the payment relates to.

 If anyone wishes to pay by cheque please can it be made out to Oldies Club and sent to : 49A Kinross Close, Cinnamon Brow, Warrington, Cheshire, WA2 0UT (Please do NOT send photographs to this address). Please can you make sure you send a note with your payment so we know who you are and which photos the payment are relates to.

NB. You must own the copyright of the pictures you are posting as any photos entered may be used for future promotional material by Oldies Club. No studio shots such as those taken at Pets at Home events.

Photos should ideally be a headshot or show the dog clearly.

**Please resize your photos to 640 x 480 pixels before emailing them.**

Photos will need to be sent to oldies@oldies.org.uk. Please state name and age of the dog and also which region you are in. Please do not send us hard copy photos through the post.

Only those photos which have their entry fee paid by the deadline will be sent to the judges.

Rosettes will be awarded to the 1st – 3rd place winners in each region. Regional winners will also win goody bags of fabulous prizes.

Marc Abraham

Oldies Club Patron Marc Abraham is the TV vet giving the nation pet advice on ITV’s This Morning, BBC Breakfast and Sky1’s My Pet Shame. Passionately promoting responsible pet ownership, rescue pet adoption and animal welfare, Marc also actively campaigns against the cruel industry of puppy farming. Armand Beasley

Armand started off his career as an actor but soon decided to gain other skills and so began his career within the cosmetic industry. From 1994 to 2000 Armand had extensive training in skincare, makeup and fragrance with most of the major cosmetic companies. Not only was he in constant demand to pamper and preen the Great British Public, he was also attracting interest from radio and TV stations as a beauty expert.

Armand is passionate about beauty and the fact that anybody can look and feel great, which is why he writes and contributes beauty columns to various publications including the Manchester Evening News, The Hereld (Ireland), H! Society (Spain), Now, Closer, Vogue and Yours magazine.

He has worked extensively on an international scale from exotic photo shoots to the Oscars, yet his down to earth nature and sense of humour ensure his feet stay firmly on the ground, no matter who his client is. Ian Jeffery

Ian Jeffery is the specialist pet photographer behind Poochography. Poochography Modern Dog Photography is a lifestyle pet and dog photography business which specialises in modern, unique, on-location, natural light dog and pet photography for Cardiff, Newport, South Wales and the West of England. He is a highly experienced dog and pet photographer and has particular expertise when it comes to shy, nervous and fearful dogs. Ian has two dogs, an English Bull Terrier called Lola, and a staffy called Basil. It was whilst spending endless hours photographing these two pooches that his passion for dog photography emerged. Angela Patmore

Angela is the author of Doggerel. This book has a foreword by Joanna Lumley and is a collection of funny and sad little verses dedicated to fifty different rescue dogs, telling their amazing stories – with their pictures, all in colour.  The second half is about the current unwanted dogs crisis, and gives practical information on the nation’s shelters and how to rehome and train a rescue dog.  All of Angela’s royalties are going to help abandoned dogs via the Association of Dogs’ and Cats’ Homes (which includes the UK’s major animal charities). The book published by SpringHill is available at most good bookshops and online.

Doggerel is Angela’s sixteenth published book.  She has written several others on dogs as well as social issues books on pressure in sport. The Truth About Stress was shortlisted for the MIND Book of the Year Award. Challenging Depression and Despair, just out, is based on her years as a Restart trainer helping unemployed people conquer depression. 

Angela lives in a small village in North Essex and has had several rescue dogs. Her last was a sad greyhound boy, Jo, who had a lot of bad luck with his health.  He died just before Doggerel was published.

Karen Wild

Karen Wild BA (Hons) Dip App Psy, is a full-time U.K. dog trainer and behaviour consultant with 17 years in the field. She has a degree and diploma in Psychology from the University of Nottingham, is a full member of the APBC and is an ABIPDT. Karen’s work has ranged from class teaching, obedience, flyball, agility and working trials competition to running a popular dog display team. When she started her own family Karen realised there was a genuine need for one-to-one help in the family environment. She formed her company Pawprint for behavioural consultations and training, and Intellidogs which specialises in online advice in this area. Michelle Keegan

Michelle Keegan has played the role of Tina McIntyre in the soap Coronation Street from 2008 until present day. She won Best Newcomer at the Soap Awards in 2008 and she won Sexiest Female in 2009 and 2010. Michelle loves dogs and she has a gorgeous Smooth Miniature Dachshund called Phoebe. They adore each other and Phoebe likes to follow Michelle around. Michelle is anti puppy farming and has spoken out about it after viewing shocking secret footage.
