13/11/17 – Brenny has found her new home. Yay!

————–

Beautiful Brenny is a 13 year old Border Collie girl who came to RSPCA South Godstone, Surrey, after her owner became too unwell to look after her. She’s looking for a peaceful, adult only home, where she’ll be the only pet and have lots of walks and games of fetch.

Brenny is really affectionate and responsive to everything going on around her. She wants to form a strong bond with the relaxed, considerate owner(s) she’s sure to find… because she’s such a treasure!

Brenny, being a Collie, is naturally extremely clever. Collies being ranked highest for intelligence out of 137 recognised breeds. As a working breed they are absolutely driven to please, which makes them easy to train with reward based training. Brenny is partially sighted and probably a bit deaf but she’s so bright, she can still learn new things with a bit of patience and plenty of praise and treats! She’s very responsive to her name. She’ll “Sit” like a pro… maybe not always in a demure way though.

Brenny does like to have reassuring company most of the time but she can be left at home for a while, once she’s settled in. She used to live happily with another dog but she finds unknown dogs quite a worry. She will bark to tell them to stay away when she feels she needs to. You can imagine how stressful she finds kennel life with the constant feeling of being under threat from the other residents, poor girl!

Away from kennels and free from anything scary, she’s a much happier dog. Exploring, then checking in with you for a cuddle. A rural or very quiet location would be lovely for her. She needs a home where things are predictable, both the routine and the layout. A safe garden that she can play in without accidentally falling in a pond etc. and someone who enjoys throwing a ball are essential to her well-being. A Collie’s gotta do what a Collie’s gotta do!

Brenny’s poor eye-sight and hearing mean she needs a bit of extra consideration and forward planning. On walks she’ll need to stay on a flexi lead until you reach a completely secure field, preferably one she can get familiar with so she can run around safely and easily find you again.

She doesn’t hold with surprises, especially when she’s out and about. Being so brainy, she can imagine all the troubling things that an approaching fuzzy, moving thing might be! Needless to say, children are out of the question – with their sudden movements and noises. There are various aids you can buy to help with general nerviness. Simply having a relaxed owner she can rely on to keep her safe will work wonders for lovely Brenny.

Brenny is spayed and generally robust. She did have an untreated skin condition when she arrived at the rescue. After a couple of soothing baths and a good groom she’s much improved. Her new owner just needs to be vigilant about keeping on top of it, if it returns. As for her diminished sight and hearing, they can’t be too limiting because she really does love playing fetch!

If you think you can offer Brenny the loving, settled home she seeks you’ll want to come and get to know her. Obviously, bearing in mind that she’s on edge in the kennel environment. If you can see past this to the wonderful companion she really is, please contact RSPCA South Godstone as follows:
