23/10/17 – After her Old Dog of the Week appearance, gorgeous Gladys found a new home. She’d been in rescue for 2 years!
Eight year old Gladys the Labrador has been at Dogs Trust’s Harefield rehoming centre in Uxbridge, London for quite a while now, waiting for someone to offer her a very quiet, countryside home without children. She needs her new folks to visit her at Dogs Trust a few times before she goes home, because she is very shy of new people and will be too frightened to go home with you until she knows you well.
The reason Gladys is so frightened of new people and new things is that she has led an extremely sheltered life. She didn’t go to busy places or get used to traffic, she wasn’t socialised with other dogs, and she didn’t meet new people. And so she finds all those things rather overwhelming now. But once she does get to know you — and this is best done with the help of food! — Gladys is a fun-loving girl who enjoys affection.

Gladys definitely wouldn’t be happy to live with children, nor to have visiting children. She needs calm, patient adult owners (two people maximum) who live in a quiet place and have a nice private garden for her to potter around in. She will have great fun chasing birds out of the garden!
Although she does have a sprinting mode available for chasing birds, Gladys is generally your laid-back, relaxed type of girl who enjoys nothing more than taking things easy. She’d love to be able to snuggle up on the sofa with you for a snooze.
Gladys has been gradually socialised with another dog at Dogs Trust and they now enjoy going out for a walk and playing together. But Gladys does need to be your only dog at home and to be given time to gradually make a few doggy friends. Her new people will need to be home a lot of the time as Gladys won’t want to be left on her own much to begin with. She will need to gradually build up her confidence about being left.
As you can gather, Gladys does need a specific type of home and owners, and she isn’t suitable for someone wanting a dog that will settle easily. But Gladys is worth every bit of effort that you put into being her friend, and she is a complete sweetheart once she knows and trusts you. That has to be worth a little bit of extra effort, doesn’t it?
