8/10/17 – Luka has found his new home!
—————–

Luka is a three legged, medium sized Golden Labrador cross of around three years old. He’s currently in the care of a Safe Rescue foster home in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where he’s starting his journey to a new and better life. Luka used to live in a village in Romania where he was persecuted and abused on a regular basis, and because of this he expects ill treatment at every turn.

For most of the time Luka is happy in his foster home. His foster mum says he does a wonderful “happy dance” at mealtimes and he has real joy on his face. But there are still moments during the day when his past life haunts him. An accidental brush against him can make him shriek in fear, and sometimes he’ll cower to the floor when you try to stroke him or put his lead on.

There is no mistaking that Luka is deeply damaged by his years of frequent abuse, but if you sit with him for a moment and talk softly to him, he will relax and enjoy the fuss. In a quiet and relaxed environment he will be a much happier and carefree dog.

Luka is lead trained to a point, but he obviously lacks confidence and he will need to build up the length of his walks. He would be quite happy just to potter in the garden, but short walks are needed to increase his confidence and also build muscle tone in his three legs.

Luka’s foster mum says … “I’m not going to tell you that fixing Luka will be easy, he is one of the most defeated dogs I have cared for in a while. But I believe in the right home he will one day be happy.”
