14 July 2017: We are very sorry to have to update Bailey’s page with the news that he has very sadly passed away. Bailey became very poorly and blood tests revealed his kidneys were also failing :-( Our thoughts and gratitude are with his forever-foster mum, who took such wonderful care of Bailey for us for the last five years. Sleep tight, Bailey x

Bailey is a very cute 13-year-old Bichon Frise Cross who arrived in Oldies Club care in 2014. We soon discovered that he is a strong character, used to getting his own way, and after he had to move foster home several times, we decided to place him in our sponsor dog scheme and appealed for a suitable permanent foster home.

We sought an experienced and confident owner for him, as he had behavioural issues requiring continued work. Thankfully a loving and appropriate foster home was found and Bailey will remain there, with Oldies Club cover all of his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Bailey has recently had to have an x-ray on his leg. The poor boy has snapped a ligament in his back leg and is on 6-8 weeks rest. Apparently he has an old similar injury in his other back leg. His lovely foster Mum is carrying him upstairs when she goes to bed as he doesn’t like being left downstairs on his own and making sure he has lots of company to help him while he rests. He is missing his walks but being a really good patient.

Bailey is still on a special diet because of his liver, but it is hoped there will be an improvement in him when he goes back for follow up tests. He has a healthy appetite and enjoys fresh chicken every day with a little fresh blended veg added to each meal. It all seems to be helping as his liver enzymes were lower last time he was tested.

Bailey didn’t like to be left home alone in previous foster homes. He is very scared of the vacuum cleaner so is never left in the same room when one is being used. He is in generally good physical health, but did have a cyst removed from his chest some time ago, so is handled with care in that area. He has had some dental problems, which have been treated.

Bailey required a cat-free home as he was over-interested in the cat in his original foster home. He also needed an adult-only home, although he can enjoy supervised interaction with dog-savvy visiting children.

Bailey has previously enjoyed the company of other dogs when out and about, but doesn’t tolerate other dogs well these days and doesn’t like to share attention in the home.

Bailey absolutely loves his walks and will remind his person if they are somewhat delayed! He has always been walked on a long or short lead since has no recall. He needs about an hour’s exercise a day, but will happily walk for much longer.

Bailey travels well in the car, but can ‘sing’ quite loudly with excitement at the beginning and end of a journey. He likes to play with his tennis balls.

Bailey has been described as a cheery, playful, companionable and very attractive little fellow, who loves being with people and having cuddles. 99% of the time he is excellent – he is fine at the vets, and groomers, can be handled, brushed, bathed etc with no problem at all.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Bailey, or one of the other special oldies in our sponsor dog scheme?
