21/9/09 Tyson’s new foster mum has decided that she can’t part with him! Welcome home Tyson!

Update 24/8/09 Someone has kindly offered to foster Tyson for us, so he’s gone off to Watford in Hertfordshire today. He’ll be getting a full assessment by his new foster mum, so look out for further updates on how he’s doing.

We would still welcome adoption enquiries from anyone who has the experience Tyson needs.

Tyson is an 8 year old German Shepherd Cross (mum was German Shepherd x English Bull Terrier, Dad was pure German Shepherd). As you can see he is a very handsome chap!

Tyson came into Oldies Club care after being left for long hours in his previous home. He is currently temporarily in kennels near Milton Keynes, but we would love to see him move into a home environment as soon as possible on either a foster or permanent basis.

Whist in kennels he’s been assessed by the resident trainer/behaviourist, who tells us that Tyson is quite an insecure dog who needs calm, consistent leadership and an experienced handler who can help build his confidence. He is an intelligent dog who has responded extremely well to training, and would love a home where this could be continued. He is an energetic lad who loves running around and is very active.

Tyson is an affectionate, loyal dog – if you are holding the lead you are his best friend, and he will look to you for guidance. In the past he has shown the GSD trait of ‘guarding’ his owner from passers-by, but a firm heel command is all that’s needed to keep him focussed and at your side.

Understandably in view of his past, Tyson is worried about being left, so will need someone able to deal with his separation issues and with the time and patience to build up absences gradually.

Tyson has lived with other dogs and cats in the past, but he thrives on one-to-one attention and can be jealous if he has to share so we feel he would be best as the only pet in his new home, however we wouldn’t rule out rehoming him with another quiet dog after sensible introductions.

Tyson is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and worm and flea-treated.

If you are interested in either fostering Tyson, or better still, offering him a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Tyson can be fostered or rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit. For a permanent rehoming, you would be required to travel to meet him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
