2/9/14 – We just had this sad update from Kerry Greyhounds: ‘Poor Buddy had a home offer but before he could go he became unwell and was diagnosed with Hepatic Lymphoma last week. He deteriorated very quickly and had to see a vet on Sunday as an emergency. Unfortunately the vet recommended that Buddy was euthanased, it was a very sad day for us all.’

Say hello to Buddy, a dear greyhound boy who is looking for a special person to take him home and care for him for the rest of his life. He is a big, gentle, affectionate and well behaved boy of around 10 years of age. Because he is older, he has very little sight left, but he still gets along fine and is going to make someone a very special companion. Buddy is in rescue with Kerry Greyhounds and is being fostered in Norfolk.

Personality
Buddy has come into rescue because his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him. It was a terribly sad parting for them both after so many years together. Buddy has been treated very well and absolutely loves everyone. He is always keen to say hello to new people and loves to be stroked and cuddled. He has no sight in one eye and very limited vision in the other. In fact, he has been almost blind from the age of 2 and so is very well adjusted to his condition. It doesn’t take him long to work out where things are and as long as you don’t move the furniture he is quite capable of finding his own way about. In fact he’s quite a determined chap and will almost insist on finding his own way!

In the Home
This lovely old boy is house trained and will ask to go outside if he needs to. He sleeps quietly on his bed at night. He will go to his bed and lay down when asked to. Once Buddy has been in his new home for a little while and is used to the layout he will be fine to be left for periods of 2 – 3 hours.

Other Animals
Buddy is fine with dogs of all shapes and sizes. He is generally quite happy to potter about doing his own thing. He is in foster care with a male lurcher and they get on just fine. He would not be able to live with a cat.

Out and About
Buddy has not been able to get out and about much recently so he needs to build up the muscles in his back legs. He loves to go for short walks where he can spend lots of time investigating all the smells along the way and sniffing the flowers. His foster Mum is taking him on several short walks a day to gradually build his muscles back up. He walks very gently on his lead.

Buddy’s Perfect Home
Buddy would be happy living with anther other dog for company but he has lived as an only dog for most of his life so will be equally happy to be rehomed as a single dog with lots of attention and someone who at home for most of the day. Kerry Greyhounds does not home dogs to households with children under the age of 8 and because of his age and blindness, any children in his new home should be older and used to being around dogs.

Buddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea’d and wormed. A homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
