2.11.2014 Poor Bill has had a series of seizures and the vet diagnosed a brain tumour. Sadly Bill had to be put to sleep. We would like to thank his fabulous foster carer for giving him some happiness in his final weeks.

Bilko, affectionately known as Bill, is a 10 year old crossbreed (possibly with some German Shepherd) who has come into Oldies Club care.   He’s not had the most comfortable of lives in the past so he really deserves a loving place to call his own.

Introducing Bill:   he’s a lovely lad who has had a difficult life up until now but in his foster home he’s blooming and showing what a lovely, sweet natured chap he is.    He’s content to potter around the house and would be happy to be left for a reasonable amount of time. He’d love a home where he was the only dog but he’d be fine in a family with children.

He took a little time to settle: Bill found the move into foster rather confusing and he wasn’t particularly pleased to meet the three other dogs in the family.  It took a few days for things to settle down and for Bill to find his place in the household.

Being left: Bill is fine to be left for a few hours at a time.  He just snoozes the time away until his people come back.  He’d probably be fine in a household where his people went out to work as long as he had a garden break or a walk at lunchtime.

Not keen on other dogs: Bill is managing in his foster home but he’d really like to be the only dog in his permanent place.  He finds sharing with three other dogs a bit much and there have been a few personality clashes with one of them in particular.  However, he’s fine on walks when he meets other dogs.

Attitude to cats unknown: Bill hasn’t been cat tested yet.

He’s good with children: Bill is enjoying the company of the children in his foster home.  He’s a little fearful of being roughly handled and sometimes squeaks if he is stroked too firmly but he has never shown any aggression.  He could be rehomed to a family with older children who understand how to respect a dog’s needs.

Out on walks and in the car: When Bill arrived in foster he didn’t really understand about walks, collars or leads.  He now enjoys a little outing although he’s quite happy just to plod round the block and doesn’t like to go too far.  He’s still learning about walking though so his recall hasn’t yet been tested.   Bill likes riding in the car.

Likes and dislikes: Bill adores his toys and would like nothing better than to keep one with him all day.  Unfortunately in his foster home, toys can be a bit of an issue in his relationship with the other dogs so he’s keeping his stash until he finds his perfect forever home.    He also loves to snooze, have his tummy tickled and generally mooch around, poking his nose into things.   He’s not really bothered by anything, is friendly to visitors and is quite happy with the resident parrots.

Bill’s perfect pad: Bill would fit into most households and families as long as he could be the only dog.  Because he isn’t particularly lively, he’d maybe suit an older couple or person who’d like a loving companion.

Health notes: Bill has had two seizures since he’s been in his foster home and he also has a permanent tremor.  He has had blood and urine tests and  the vet feels that Bill has a neurological issue not epilepsy.  Bill ignores the whole thing and recovers very quickly after a seizure.

Foster carer’s summary: Bill has not had the best start in life.  He had clearly not been walked for a long time and needed to learn that.    He has transformed into a family member and loves to potter round the block.  He is content snoozing for most of the day and loves his home comforts.  I really hope that people give this lovely boy a chance.  His personality shines through and he is the most polite house guest.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
