Sparky (Animal Helpline, Peterborough)

This cute little chap is Sparky and he’s a Jack Russell Terrier, aged about 10 years old. He’s sadly been in rescue for quite a long time now so Animal Helpline are hoping he won’t be waiting much longer.
Sparky did find a new home a short while ago, but he was returned a few days later for biting. The rescue say this was totally out of character for him as he’s never displayed that kind of behaviour in the kennels. They believe that, after being in rescue for a long time, he didn’t adapt to the change of environment as quickly as expected and felt a little stressed to begin with. Because of this he’s going to need someone with experience who can allow him time to settle at his own pace.
Sparky is quite excitable when he meets new people and he’ll try to jump up to say hello. He can be a little possessive around food and toys, but this behaviour should be easily managed by an experienced owner.
Sparky is a very sweet little dog. He’s loving and affectionate and enoys having a cuddle with you on the sofa or a nice long snooze in his own bed. He’s housetrained and travels well in the car, but he doesn’t like windscreen wipers!
Animal Helpline believe that Sparky could live with older children who are used to being around dogs, but they would need to be aged 12 years or over. Sparky is generally good with other calm dogs when he’s out, but would prefer a home where he’ll be the only one.
Sparky has auto-immune disease and the rescue would be happy to discuss this in more detail with anyone who is interested in offering him a new home.
Please don’t overlook this lovely little fellow. He has a great character and will make a super companion for someone with terrier experience.
