5/7/12 Woody’s found a home!

This darling little chap is Woody, a tiny Yorkie boy who is seeking a new home through no fault of his own. His owners are emigrating and feel he would not cope with the upheaval and have asked Pro Dogs Direct to help find him a new home.

When Pro Dogs Direct first took Woody in, they were told he was around 10 years old, but they have since discovered he is actually 15-16, an equivalent of around 115 in human years!

This cuddly, sweet little lad really needs a comfortable and loving home to live out the rest of his days. He has limited vision and hearing, but his sense of smell is as reliable as ever. He gets along quite well, but he does derive a great deal of comfort from knowing you are nearby. He will potter about in your wake and, if you leave the room, he will cry for you, sounding a bit like a baby sealion! If you are going out, it’s best to wait until he’s taking a nap unless, of course. you take him with you! He is very good on the bus and in the car.

Woody prefers to sleep next to the bed on the floor at night and actively prefers a fairly hard floor rather than a dog bed. He will always toilet outside, provided you take him there regularly but, if you forget, he has a tendency to use the floor.

Being an elderly gent, he drinks and urinates fairly frequently. He eats well and adores added luxuries such as cooked chicken and sausage with his meals or as treats! Woody likes being groomed and prefers pottering around the garden to a long walk.

Woody has a slight narrowing of his trachea which is not uncommon in Yorkies. He needs no medication for it and it is managed by simply not tiring him out or putting him situations where he becomes overly stressed or excited. He had several teeth removed 6 months ago but this does not affect his eating in any way. He has good mobility for his age, although he is very slightly wobbly and will stumble on steps occasionally. He should be carried up the stairs to bed.

Although he doesn’t seek out other dogs for play or companionship anymore, Woody is exceptionally tolerant of them and will simply back away gently if he feels threatened. He seems to get along with anyone and anything and doesn’t mind being picked up and cuddled. He has been cat tested and didn’t seem to notice the cat at all. He should be fine living with cats and was even tolerant of the chickens at the rescue!

Woody needs a home where he can spend his days in calm and comfort. He just needs the love and care of an owner who realises he is not a young dog anymore! He appreciates a simple but regular routine, including practical steps such as having his bowls consistently in the same place. Above all, Woody just wants to be loved and cared for by a special person in his old age.
