6/5/13 Poppy has gone to her new home today!
Poppy is an adorable 10 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier girl who came into Oldies Club care when her owners moved to rented accommodation where dogs aren’t allowed. Poppy is in an Oldies Club foster home in Northwich, Cheshire.
Poppy’s poorly eye: Since coming into our care, Poppy has had surgery to remove her right eye as she was suffering from very painful glaucoma/infection. (See Poppy’s Poorly Eye JustGiving page.) She is recovering well and is now ready to find a new home.
This photo was taken before the operation to remove Poppy’s poorly eye
Settled quite easily: Poppy settled at her foster home quickly. She just cried a little for first night and second night, but she was then fine.
Can be left a few hours: Poppy is happy to be left alone for a few hours and would be fine living with a part-time worker. She would probably cope with living with full-time workers, but would be happier to not be left quite that long.
Good with dogs: Poppy is happy with other dogs and she lived with another dog in her previous home.
Good with cats: Poppy is happy with cats and lived with a cat at her previous home.
Good with children: Poppy lived with young children in her previous home.
Well behaved on walks: Poppy is good on the lead. She is slightly deaf so her recall isn’t entirely reliable – she does come sometimes when called but not at other times and her foster carer isn’t sure if that’s because she doesn’t always hear you or doesn’t want to hear you!! Poppy needs at least one 20 minute walk a day, at a good pace. She doesn’t like walks that are muddy or very windy!
Good traveller: Poppy likes cars and is very good in them.
Poppy’s favourite pastimes: Sleeping; Cuddling; Being cuddled; Having her back scratched; Rolling on the carpet to scratch her back!; Walking; Sitting on anything soft (you, cushions, sofa, blankets etc!); Eating!
Poppy’s dislikes: Vacuum cleaners.
Poppy’s perfect home: Where someone would be around for a good part of the day, to give her lots of attention.
Health notes: Poppy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. She had her right eye removed recently – it was swollen and painful due to glaucoma. She has a cataract on her left eye. She bumps into things if in an unfamiliar environment, but she doesn’t mind and soon learns where things are. She seems to be partially deaf. She is slightly arthritic (just old age) and can be a bit stiff in the mornings – but she can quite easily walk and run when she has loosened up, so it’s nothing of concern.
Foster carer’s summary of Poppy: “Fun; Affectionate; Loyal. She loves peanut butter and any treats in general. Happy to eat dried food. Gorgeous, cute dog who wins the hearts of everyone she meets, even if they’re not dog lovers“.
If you can offer Poppy a permanent home, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:
Telephone: 0844 586 8656
Poppy can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.Tags: Active Oldie, Calmer and Quieter, Good with cats, Good with kids, Good with other dogs, Medium Sized, North West, Special Needs, Staffy or Bully, Terrier
