Wellington is a 10 year old Schnauzer type boy who is at Stokenchurch Dog Rescue.
Wellington is absolutely gorgeous, but he is quite a sensitive and insecure boy, so needs understanding owners who will help him with this. He gets worried when he is left on his own, so he is looking for a home where his people will be around to help him feel safe and secure and gradually build up the time he is left.
Wellington is looking for a calm home in a quiet, rural area with a large secure garden that he can play in and enjoy. He gets stressed when outside the home on walks, so having a secure garden will be hugely beneficial for him. He particularly enjoys playing interactive games, doing calming scent work and simply learning new things.
He is worried by other dogs and doesn’t know how to interact with them. He can become quite stressed and vocal when seeing other dogs, so his new owners will need to continue with his behavioural work. He loves treats, so rewarding him for calm behaviour around other dogs works well. Wellington is muzzled when he goes for walks, but this really doesn’t bother him as he can still be rewarded with tasty treats.
Wellington can live with older children, aged 14 years plus, but he needs to be your only pet. In a home with people who have experience of Schnauzer types and are willing to continue working with him and his anxiety, he will make a wonderful companion. It’s important not to put any pressure on Wellington as he will struggle and shut down and this could make him feel even more worried.
Could you offer Wellingon a quiet home and the experience, understanding and training he needs?
