Dawson (Safe Rescue, fostered Norfolk)

Sadly, Dawson has spent nearly his entire life in a Romanian shelter and is now looking forward to his new life of doggy bliss in a U.K. forever home. He’s currently living in a foster home in Norwich, Norfolk, provided by Safe Rescue.

Dawson is a 7 year old German Shepherd Cross and is understandably nervous of people initially, especially men, but after a few days of work, patience and lots of chicken, he can also come to accept men who earn his trust. Ideally, Dawson needs a GSD-savvy, quiet home where he can be lavished with the fuss and love he had never known until now. He loves cuddles and a good belly rub; once he’s bonded with you, he’s like a big teddy bear.

Dawson was previously adopted and returned to the Rescue for his issues with men so, this time, adopters should fully understand that if men he doesn’t know come into the house he will have to be removed as he just cannot cope with it. Dawson is very happy to spend time in a crate when men are round and has absolutely no objection to this, so it’s safer for everyone and kinder on him to not be put into situations that stress him.

Dawson loves his walks and behaves well whilst with his fosterer but in his last home environment he was protective, so he needs to know that he’s not in charge and protection is not needed from him. He’s very calm and quiet though he does have a bark to tell you there’s someone outside the house. He listens to guidance and once he has been told “No” he understands straight away.

Dawson’s adopters need to be prepared to continue to build his confidence, to guide him and most importantly to love him and not to give up on him for the reasons mentioned above. He has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
