Jackson (Freshfields Animal Rescue, Liverpool)

Jackson is a 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who arrived at Freshfields Animal Rescue, in Liverpool, after his owner sadly passed away. Jackson has taken a while to adjust to life at the rescue, bless him, but Freshfields feel that they can now start accepting applications for him.

Jackson arrived a very confused and anxious boy; he did not cope at all well in the kennels and started to become snappy towards the staff. Freshfields have therefore moved Jackson into a quiet room and they are seeing an improvement in his behaviour. He has bonded extremely well with one member of staff who he adores. Jackson is very affectionate and clingy with this person, and so it is clear that he is quite an insecure dog who is simply looking for reassurance.

It appears that Jackson has some separation anxiety: he does not like to be locked away on his own and will bark and cry, but he does not seem to be destructive. Jackson has been through a lot since losing his owner. He has had to accept moving into the kennel environment, interacting with lots of different people and also seeing the vet. It was all too much for Jackson and it was clear to see that he wasn’t coping.

Jackson needs an experienced owner, someone who has dealt with nervous/anxious dogs before. He absolutely needs a soft and gentle approach with someone patient. He would be best suited to living with one person with whom he can form a strong bond. He cannot live with children and cannot be placed in a home where there are any children visiting. He needs someone around for most/all of the day, and a quiet environment is crucial, with very little commotion or visitors. Jackson has not had many interactions with other dogs but Freshfields feel that he will need to be the only pet in the home. He does not like cats or small animals.

Jackson’s new owner will need to visit him a number of times to build a relationship with him at the rescue. This will then progress to a slow introduction to the home, so please do bear your location in mind should you wish to enquire about him.

Could you be the person for Jackson?
