Barney (Freshfields Animal Rescue, Liverpool)

Beautiful Barney is a 10-year-old Crossbreed boy who is with Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool due to a change in his owners’ circumstances and through no fault of his own.

When poor Barney arrived he was completely bewildered to find himself in kennels and, although he is a very sweet boy, he was very nervous and withdrawn around the people at Freshfields. Thankfully, over the last few weeks, he has started to come out of his shell and allow the kennel staff to bond with him.

Barney can get anxious and he shows this through his body language when he feels overwhelmed. He is wary of the outside world and startles easily, therefore kennel staff have slowly been building him up to walks around quiet areas. During his time he has seen the vet and, although frightened, he hasn’t shown any aggression.

Lovely Barney needs an experienced home with people who have handled nervous behaviour before. He cannot live with other animals and needs from a quiet, adult home, with minimal visitors, to allow him to settle and feel comfortable. It is likely that Barney will take a few months to adjust in a new home before he begins to relax properly, therefore he needs caring and understanding people who will be patient with him throughout this process. You will also need to be prepared to visit him at the rescue for several weeks to build up a relationship with him before taking him home.

Poor Barney is really struggling in kennels and is finding it difficult to adapt to the busy environment. Due to this, Freshfields are considering finding a foster home for him. So if you are interested in fostering him, please get in touch with them and they will go through the process with you.
