Handsome Henry (Oldies Club Sponsor Dog)

Handsome Henry aged 13 arrived in Oldies Club care with his bestest buddy Pru a pretty 14 year old JRT in October 2014. Both dogs settled in well in their foster home where their fosterer instantly fell in love with the pair.

Once taken for their vet check the vet was concerned about some of Henry’s lumps and bumps so biopsies were taken. Henry had been coughing on and off since arrival but nothing too serious until he had a gagging fit. Henry was taken back to the vets where an egg sized lump was discovered pushing on his larynx. After discussion with the vet it was confirmed due to the location of the lump it was inoperable and that Henry could be given steroids and pallative care.  Despite all this Henry’s quality of life was still very good and he loved his food, walks, fuss and playing with his tennis ball. Due to Henry & Pru being so bonded it was decided to make the pair sponsor dogs and for them to live out the rest of their days in Oldies Club care.

Apart from developing pain in his rear leg Henry progressed well and both dogs enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with their fosterers where they were spoilt rotten.

Sadly after a wonderful day out in the garden with new toys, Henry  took a turn for the worse. He was unable to stand up and clearly distressed. Unfortunately there was nothing more the vet could do to help Henry so it was agreed to let our big man go, with Pru at his side until the end.

We are very grateful to his lovely foster family for welcoming him into their family and taking such great care of him for us, for his final months. Our thoughts are with them at this sad time and to Pru who is missing her best friend. Run free at Rainbow Bridge, lovely boy.
