Brave Bobo (Oldies Club Sponsor Dog)

Bobo is an approximately 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier who arrived in Oldies care in November 2021. She is probably one of the most abused and neglected dogs we have ever taken in. She arrived matted with bald areas, unwashed and unloved, but still with a sparkle in her eyes and a look of hope.
The anxiety she suffered prior to coming into our care led her to completely pull out her fur on her back legs and her tail leaving her almost bald but after lots of care and loving attention it’s grown back nicely. Bobo was friendly from the start but afraid of being touched and would stiffen up. It has taken her fosterer a long time to gain Bobo’s full trust and she no longer flinches when a hand is reached out to stroke her. She now loves being picked up and cuddled.
X-rays show Bobo had four old rib breaks and fractures as well as a broken jaw. The vet said it’s very difficult for dogs to break their ribs unless they’ve been hit by a car or in this case abuse. After numerous vet visits Bobo was diagnosed with Cushings disease, heart murmur and a benign mass in her lung. She’s now stable thanks to her medicine and the vet monitoring her conditions.
Due to her anxiety and other medical conditions meaning she has unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Bobo in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Bobo loves her walks but these have now to be shortened as she started to collapse after getting over excited or exerted but her heart medicine has helped to control this. She has to be kept on her lead as she likes to try and chase cars and is very vocal with other dogs.
Bobo enjoys a walk around her fosterers allotment where life is quieter, sniffing out mice in the hedges and will happily wait all day for one. She’s friendly with the allotment cats but likes to try and chase the birds.
Bobo enjoys snuggling in her bed and even attempts to bury her treats in it which cannot be comfortable to lie on.
Even though Bobo struggles to chew due to her still healing fractured jaw she still gets her favourite biscuits which are now ground up to make it easier to eat.
It’s probably fair to say prior to Oldies Club Bobo’s only known a life of neglect and abuse but now she’s enjoying a life full of love and care.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Bobo, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
