Jess is a 16 years old Lhasa Apso x JRT who came into rescue in April 2024 after her owner moved into accommodation where pets are not allowed. When she arrived she was understandably a little stressed out and paced around her foster home. Her fosterer noted that she seemed uncomfortable and hopefully a vet visit would help resolve this.
The check revealed Jess to have a heart murmur and quite severe dental disease. Bloods and a scan were booked in, in case they revealed anything further. The scan revealed her heart was in pretty good condition but her liver enlarged which could possibly indicated Cushings. She is now on lifetime medication for this. Jess underwent a dental to help with her mouth issues and was feeling a lot better once healed up.
Unfortunately Jess began to shows signs of dementia and despite being on medication it has been difficult to keep her Cushings under control. Due to this and the fact Jess also suffers with separation anxiety Oldies Club made the decision to place her in our sponsor dog scheme which means she will remain at her lovely foster home with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of her days.
She is very loyal but has a twinkle in her eye as she has a penchant for escapology which her fosterer discovered when they realised Jess was small enough to get out of the cat flap and go visit the builders who were working next door. This was possibly linked to her separation anxiety and she was looking for people. Naturally the cat flap is now locked. Jess is not very happy to be left alone. She is deaf so, when her fosterer leaves room, she feels that they have left her universe. This has been slowly improving over time but she still prefers company.
Jess loves people and draws quite a lot of attention which is most likely due to her cute appearance. She loves a chin stroke and ear rub. Jess is a cuddle bunny. She enjoys being treated like a baby and will also sleep on the bed with her fosterer’s son being the little spoon. Jess is a smart cookie and she adores showing off her tricks for treats! Her repertoire includes rollover and a double pawed high five.
Jess is a very chilled out little dog in the house until her daily walk around the woods where she comes alive running and sniffing like a much younger dog. She will bark if her fosterer stops on a walk until she is finished exercising. Jess will not run too far ahead as her eye sight is quite poor at distance. Jess however has zero road awareness so she in kept on short lead near roads.
Jess loves her sleep and she is usually the last to get up in the morning. She likes to roll around on her back once awake and she can be quite vocal when she’s happy.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Jess, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme. If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Jess, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
