Charlie and George are almost 12 years old Cavalier x Poodles who arrived in Oldies Club care in October 2024 after their owner passed away.
When they first arrived they struggled to settle in their first foster home. Apparently they had not had the best start to life and had been kept in a dog cage with access to the back garden but no walks or socialisation. They were rather under-socialised to the outside world, needy and overwhelmed the original fosterer. Thankfully we were able to move them to another home with a pair of fosterers to help the boys overcome the massive change in their lives.
On their check up with the vet, it was discovered that both have mitral valve disease and would be on medication for life. There was also concerns over the state of their teeth. Both dogs underwent dentals which resulted in George’s remaining three teeth being removed and for poor Charlie 15 teeth were removed as they were all rotten. A small mass was found on George’s anal gland and a biopsy revealed that he sadly has cancer. Charlie has a fatty lump on his chest but another on his leg which was discovered to be a sarcoma.

Due to George and Charlie’s medical issues and unknown time left, it was decided that the pair would be placed in our sponsor dog scheme. This means they will remain in their lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying their vet bills for the rest of their lives.
Both dogs love their walks, although Charlie likes the idea of walks rather than the actual walking. Charlie is shy and takes a little while to be comfortable with new dogs and people. George on the other hand loves to be out meeting other dogs and their owners, as well as sniffing out the area and leaving his ‘calling card’ on just about everything.

They have become more playful and loving since they arrived and enjoy running around the house or rolling around on the carpet, a particular favourite, especially after dinner. Both George and Charlie love their cuddles and tummy tickles.
George and Charlie both love their food and even though they have both had all their teeth out this has not stopped them enjoying their meals and treats.
Their fosterers say that both George and Charlie are an absolute delight and it was a wonderful day for them when The Oldies Club allowed them to look after this pair. They feel truly blessed at having these adorable little boys in their lives.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor George & Charlie, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
