November 2006 – Kline very sadly passed away recently. Our thoughts are with his foster family.

October 2006 – another update on Kline from his foster mum:

Kline went with his foster family on holiday to Wales, where he had walks on the beach every day and met lots of other dogs … he was not keen on getting his feet wet but loved to stick his nose in the seaweed!

Whilst on holiday we had a stowaway dog that would not leave Kline alone!

Kline really enjoyed his holiday and nobody would believe me when I said he was 15 years old! He is just like a puppy!!

When you shout “dinner’s ready”…he comes flying in and is always the first one there!

12/7/2006 Here’s an update on Kline from his foster mum:

“Sergeant Major” Kline has now turned 15 years old and is still going strong despite his heart murmur and liver condition.

He is now showing signs of his condition but that is not stopping him from: charging up the garden with his younger playmate, going for his walks, demanding attention and cuddles, pondering about the garden, and going up and down the stairs and into every room to make sure he knows where everyone is… If you have shut the bathroom door and you have been in there too long he will howl to let you know he wants to see you!

Kline has coped quite well with the hot weather we have been having. After a busy day he loves nothing better than to curl up with his forever friend.”

17/4/2006 Sadly, Kline was returned from his new home, through no fault of his own. However, Kline will be permanently fostered for the Oldies Club in Norfolk, so he will have a happy life.

Due to his health problems, Kline is now an Oldies Club sponsor dog. Find out more about our sponsor scheme.

26/3/2006 from Kline’s foster mum:

“Kline is a really lively little lad who loves nothing better than to have a ball thrown for him (being a true hound he does not bring it back to you! ).

He loves company, he would be happiest with someone who is home most of the time, he’ll become your devoted little shadow. ”

Kline is a 14 year old Beagle being fostered in Norfolk for the Oldies Club. He is full of typical Beagle character. He needs someone really special who can share their time and days with him.

Kline gets on well with the younger, boisterous resident dog; they play really nicely and Kline tells the other dog to get off when he has had enough. He has sniffed the two resident cats and nudged them but, as they won’t play, he walks away and leaves them alone. He loves children but we would not want to home him with young children as they can be a bit too heavy handed for him.

Kline loves to travel and will go anywhere with you. He sits in the front seat and looks quite the wise old gent watching everything going on; he doesn’t like people getting too close to the car when in the front though…not even white vans! He will also sit quite happily in the back, if you have a front seat passenger, but prefers to be as near to you as he can, so that when you have stopped in traffic he can be petted!

Kline is nosey and likes to know where everyone in the family is; once he has established that, he likes nothing better than to either be out in the garden wandering around, or in one of his beds in the same room as you are in – snoring with one eye open!

He is housetrained and tells you when he wants to go out by going to the door; he doesn’t bark to tell you! But he does bark to tell you it is dinner time!

Kline loves his walks and is very well behaved on the lead. His recall is typical of a beagle – responding when he has finished what he wants to do. He hasn’t been off-lead whilst in foster care!

Kline is vaccinated, microchipped, worm- and flea-treated. On his vet visit for a general health check with a view to getting him neutered and having some dental work done, it was found that he has a heart murmur which has meant that he cannot have a general anaesthetic. Some bloods were taken to check his other organs and it has found he has some raised liver enzymes.

Kline cannot therefore be neutered nor have the dental work done. He has been given Antirobe (antibiotic) to help his gums and is on a special dental diet. The only treats he can have are dental biscuits to help break off some of the plaque. He is also on a hepatic diet food for his liver. He will probably need to have a week’s course of Antirobe on a monthly basis to help keep his gums in good condition.

Kline also has a bit of arthritis in his rear legs which can sometimes make him a bit wobbly, but this certainly does not stop him charging about or going for walks and he is not in any pain, so is not on any meds for the arthritis.

Despite the special diet / medical needs, he is no trouble to have around. He has a beautiful character and really just needs a loving comfortable home to share his last few years.
