29 June 2013: We are very sorry to have to update Suzie’s page to let you know that she was suddenly taken ill and has very sadly passed away :-( Our thoughts are with her fosterer, who took such great care of Suzie for us. Sleep tight, Suzie.

We have received this update from Suzie’s foster mum – it definitely qualifies for the “aaaaahhhhhh” award of the month!

“Suzie is very happy (I think, it is difficult to tell with those sad, soulful eyes ).  We have established a toilet system which she  understands perfectly and knows exactly what to do, so we are both very pleased.  It took a while but we finally got there. Also Suzie has learned to wag her tail at last!

At one point she got a little bit thin, but she now has the same size dinner as much larger dogs and still goes scrounging around everyone else’s bowls later.  She is a true bottomless pit when it comes to food!

One of the loveliest things with Suzie is that she has bonded with my 2 year old grandaughter and follows her around;  it is wonderful to see them cuddling together – a little girl and an ancient, well worn, bald, lumpy teddy bear :)

Now that the weather is warm, Suzie has emerged from her knitted jumper, but of course with the lack of hair we now have to think about sunburn… “

                                                --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suzie is an adorable little 14 year old Terrier Cross girl who is in a foster home in Worcestershire.

Oldies Club have decided that due to Suzie’s health problems, she should be placed in the charity’s sponsor scheme, meaning that she will remain in her lovely foster home, with Oldies Club covering the cost of her vet bills for life.

When Suzie arrived in Oldies Club care she was not in good health; she had to have lots of teeth removed and was prescribed antibiotics and Metacam.  She was groggy after the operation but did manage to enjoy a soft meal.  She also showed signs of Cushings disease , including rough, dry, thickened skin on her belly.  She was put on a course of medication, but the vet has advised that they don’t expect her hair to regrow in the areas where it is thin or lost.  She has a special shampoo and her foster Mum is trying some cream to see if it will help.

Although Suzie has become a very frail little dog who looks quite doddery and a bit sad on occasion, she brightens up considerably when food appears and her tail goes into proper wag mode!  She also loves treats and will think nothing of rugby tackling or trampling the other dogs in a bid to win the treat.  There is no malice and she doesn’t mind if someone else snatches a treat from under her nose, she just has such fun trying!

Suzie and the other dogs in her foster home get along well together and one is a little blind dog who regularly bumps into Suzie but she never bats an eyelid. She is also happy to sleep with the other dogs, proving that she has a lovely temperament in spite of not feeling the best at times. She is being brilliantly cared for in her foster home and feels safe, warm and loved.  Her foster mum puts two coats on her when it is cold and there are plenty of warm beds around the house for her to cuddle up in.

Suzie has one of those faces that just melts the heart, those big soulful eyes just make you want to scoop her up and give her a big cuddle. Oldies Club will make sure that she will get plenty of love and affection in her twilight years.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Suzie or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
