15/11/09 Sadly Tess has had to be put to sleep. Some words from her owners ….
“It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that we had Tess put to sleep on 21st October whilst we were all away on her “dog’s holiday” in Wales. The local vets there suggested she had suffered a stroke and although they tried to help her, after a couple of days we thought it would be kinder to put her to sleep. Norman took her body home and we buried her in the garden. Tess was a lovely girl and we loved her to bits. Here is a photo of Tess enjoying her last paddle. She was a lovely dog and was Norman’s best friend right up to the end. I think we gave her nearly 4 years in a happy home – I hope so”
A few personal words from the RSPCA Dog Rehoming Coordinator …..
“Tess had a very sad story to tell, the victim of severe beatings by her owner finally witnessed in public which left her unconscious; she found herself in our care. Sadly she was in kennels for several years being over looked, we guess this was due to her breed, age and constant barking and lunging at visitors, she was very fearful of men especially. Tess was a favourite of mine as I could see past that, I walked her a few times a week all the while she was in kennels and even took her home. Then one day this lovely couple saw Tess on the Oldies Club website and well…the rest is history. She settled in wonderfully and forged a great friendship with the ‘man of the house’, we would never have thought! She had a wonderful life, safe and happy and loved.
There really are special people out there for dogs like Tess, we never give up searching and waiting and we hope that this story opens your eyes into considering adopting an older dog, especially those like Tess”

15/12/05 – We are thrilled to report that Tess has found a loving new home. Her new owner first saw her on the Oldies Club website, and we wish them a happy future together! :-)
8-year old GSD Tess is a ‘Special Appeal’ animal because she was ill-treated by her original owner. She is extremely nervous of men and needs lots of TLC, ideally in a caring female only environment, where she can be reassured that not all the human race is that bad. Tess does not understand cats.
This will mean hard work and dedication for that special person taking her on. She was recently rehomed to a couple but could not relax with a man about the house – so she is back! She mustn’t spend her life in kennels because of the behaviour of an uncaring human, and she really does have the potential to be a loyal loving friend who will never let you down, if you give her the chance.
Tess had already been in kennels for 2 whole years before the rehoming that didn’t work out for her – so she really, really deserves a place of her own.
Come and visit her, she’s lovely, and see if you can offer her a new start in life.
