Augusta & Victoria Plum

In June 2005, the Oldies Club received a call from Meadow Green Dog Rescue, Norfolk. They had been asked to take in two oldie Cairn and Border Terrier bitches whose owner had been hospitalised and would not be able to care for them in the future, but had no room to accept them.

Augusta and Victoria Plum (known as Gusty and Vicky) were used to 24-7 care and attention from their owner, but were now being left home alone with friends and relatives popping in to feed and let them out periodically, so finding them a foster or permanent home was urgent. Meadow Green called us and asked us to help to rehome them asap.

After explaining that it may take a while to rehome a pair of dogs (they had always been together and it would have been unfair to part them now) the OC put Gusty and Vicky’s photos and details on the website and – miraculously – in less than twenty four hours Penny from Derbyshire had seen their plight and fallen for them in a big way.

Penny came with glowing references from a local rescue in Derbyshire who attested to her love of and dedication to dogs (a previous rescue terrier had trashed her house and pulled the microwave off a kitchen surface, but Penny had worked through all the dog’s problems, and the little terrierist is now a well-mannered, stable dog!).

Gusty and Vicky’s owners thought Penny sounded like a dream come true, so after a few discussions and some paperwork, the Oldies Club arranged volunteer transporters to get the girls from Norfolk to Derbyshire.

One urgent transport plea later, Gusty and Vicky arrived safely in Derbyshire with a delighted new mum where they are settling in well, less than a week after being featured on our site… when the system works, it really works!! ;-)
