StaffyThe number of Staffordshire Bull Terriers and SBT cross breed dogs coming into rescue has reached crisis point. There are far more of these dogs being bred than there are homes to take them. Rescues across the UK are struggling, and healthy dogs are being put to sleep because there is just nowhere for them to go.

Staffyx.orgNow a new organisation – Staffycross.org – has been launched to campaign for Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Staffy crosses and help coordinate finding them homes and rescue places.

The organisation also offers lots of information on why there is a problem with overbreeding of Staffies, and urging owners of Staffie and Staffie type dogs to neuter or spay their dogs.

Just 24 hours from launch, Staffycross.org has already saved its first dog!

Red the rescued StaffyRed, a staffy x dog had come into the pound. He was injured and had to have an eye removed on arrival at the pound. 7 days later and he was out of time and due to be put to sleep. Ally, Coordinator of Staffycross.org, Rochdale Rescue, and a whole bunch of people who helped out by making phone calls and offering transport worked together to find him a rescue place. Red will be going into rescue tomorrow, and Staffycross.org will be working to help find him a home. This operation cost just £30 which is nothing to save a life, but they will need support to go on organising this kind of last minute rescue!
