19/11/2007 Life just doesn’t seem fair. Poppy had been making tremendous progress in the months spent at CDRS and was about to be rehomed when she suddenly started to deteriorate. Within two days she had become completely jaundiced and had to be put to sleep with liver failure. This is a really sad outcome after she had come so far. At least she had some happy time with CDRS.

Poppy is a 9 year old white and brown Jack Russell Terrier who is with Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Bucks. She needs to find a special new home as soon as possible.

Chilterns Dogs Rescue Society tell us that when Poppy was brought into the Rescue Centre she was in a very poor physical condition and had almost no hair. Skin scrapes confirmed demodetic mange. This had been left untreated for almost nine years so both bacterial and fungal infections had taken hold leaving poor little Poppy covered with open, infected sores. Here is a photo of Poppy on arrival at CDRS:

Antiobiotics and weekly baths with the appropriate shampoos have transformed Poppy, both physically and mentally. She must feel so much better now.

Poppy can now be rehomed but her new owner must be prepared to continue bathing her weekly for some months to come. Her condition is not infectious to people or other dogs.

Poppy would be happy in a wide variety of homes, provided her new owner has previous experience of living with terriers. Although she has previously lived with another Jack Russell bitch, she would probably enjoy being the only dog in her new home. She is also used to cats and a parrot, although she would be excited by them. She has had regular contact with children aged 10 -12 years of age and would welcome regular visiting older children if well behaved.

Poppy is surprisingly energetic for her age and loves her daily walks so a country lifestyle would suit her very well. Poppy is spayed.
