12/11/2007 Bad news: time ran out for Sam. He had to be put to sleep on Friday on veterinary advice as he had gone into kidney failure. CDRS tell us that it was very sad as there were no indications he was even unwell until they got his blood test results back. Sleep well Sam.

Staffy cross Sam is about 9 years old and came into the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society when his owners recently divorced, but until this change of circumstances he was a treasured family dog.

Sam loves being with people of all ages and whilst he would be happy to meet visiting young children, he would prefer a family home with teenagers.

Sam has lived with both dogs and cats in the past, but he can be a little loud when he meets unfamiliar furry friends. He is affectionately known as a “loveable lout”! He would therefore be better homed as the only pet.

Sam loves to travel in the car and enjoys regular walks where he can explore the hedgerows. He is fairly well trained and is good on and off the lead, provided there aren’t too many distractions!

Sam has had a fatty lump and a cyst removed from his back, but this was more for cosmetic reasons and no further treatment should be required. Sam is neutered and has recently had a dental.

Health Update: Blood tests taken at the time of his operation have revealed that Sam has some kidney damage. He is not showing any symptoms of ill health yet and there is no reason to believe he should not have a good quality of life for some considerable time, but the vet has recommended he is fed on k/d food and is moved to a new home ASAP. CDRS are prepared to assist with Sam’s feeding costs in his new home.
