TOMMY
We are very sad to announce that Tommy passed away on Tuesday 6 November. Many of you will remember that Tommy came into our care in a terribly neglected and traumatised state. Tommy spent several months in the warmth and security of his loving foster home where he blossomed into a wonderful gentle dog. During his stay there Tommy underwent major mouth surgery costing over £650.

As Tommy was incontinent during the night and had never lived indoors, we knew that the type of home Tommy needed would be in short supply so we were delighted when a lady in North Wales offered him a permanent home with her. We drove Tommy to his wonderful new home one Saturday and Tommy had a fantastic few months there – he had some doggy friends, acres of land to roam in, and his own warm stable to sleep in. He shared that cuddled up with a pair of Aylesbury ducks and a rabbit! Tommy’s last few days were very happy – he enjoyed supervising the building of a bonfire, and spent most of his time plodding around with his new pal Bruce, another elderly German Shepherd.

Tommy not only crept into the heart of everyone who met him, but also those who never met him but had heard his story.

We would like to thank the Oldies Club for all their help and support – without it we wouldn’t have found such a wonderful home for lovely Gentleman Tommy.

Sleep tight, Tommy, you special boy.

9/7/2007 Absolutely amazing news: Tommy has found the perfect home in Wales with some dog friends for company and a wonderful owner who is absolutely delighted with him. We are SO pleased to hear this news. See the photos of Tommy in his new home in his Rehoming Story.

Tommy the German Shepherd is about 10 years old and is in a Animal Accident Rescue Unit (AARU) foster home, waiting for a new permanent home. He was quite traumatised when he first came into their care but he’s much happier now.

Tommy is looking for a home where he can spend a lot of time outdoors. He has, as far as AARU are aware, never lived indoors. He is quite happy outdoors and doesn’t seem to know any different. Due to this, he isn’t properly housetrained but he has slept in the kitchen at his fosterer’s house for 8-9 hours and, as long as she can get him outside as soon as he wakes up, it isn’t a problem!

He likes regular short walks (10-15 minutes twice a day) and is good on the lead. He’s a bit deaf and his eyesight isn’t fantastic, but he can see and hear enough to be able to enjoy pottering around the garden.

Tommy is good with other dogs. He loves people and could live with children over 10. He would probably settle best in a home where he can spend a lot of his time outdoors, with a warm kennel or shed to go into if it rains or gets cold, and then come into the house to sleep at night.

Tommy would love a new owner who wants a canine companion to help them in the garden. He is learning to play with toys and his favourite is chasing (slowly!) footballs. He sometimes trips over a bit, but he just gets up and carries on!

Tommy has lots of love to give to the special someone who can offer him a loving and caring retirement home.

AARU are a registered charity based in Nottingham and would ideally be looking to rehome Tommy in the Notts/Leics/Derbys area, but other areas would be considered subject to a homecheck. AARU ask for a mimimum donation of £50 when a dog is adopted from them.
