Dane of Freshfields

27/09/2008 We are very sad to hear that the lovely Dane has had to be put to sleep. He has been ill for a while but was still enjoying life until the last couple of days. It is a comfort to know that after years of suffering at the hands of his owner, Dane was loved and spoilt by the people at Freshfields.

Regular readers will probably share our affection for Dane and our strong hope that he would eventually find a suitable loving home. Sadly, poor Dane’s health is not too good and Freshfields have decided to not rehome him as they feel the stress of a move could be too much for his heart.

Dane’s entry won’t appear on our website now, so here is a little summary of his story:

Dane, the Labrador Cross has never been in a loving home. Before arriving at Freshfields in 2001 he was badly beaten with a stick by his cruel owner – he had even named him Pain. Dane was never socialized or walked and when his owner died he was left alone to rot in complete and utter squalor.

Not surprisingly, Dane was terrified and aggressive when Freshfields rescued him. Thankfully Dane is now a much loved and happy dog who adores toys, especially the squeaky ones, and loves to curl up in his big warm bed with them.

We hope that Dane has plenty more happy days ahead of him at Freshfields.
