10/6/2010 Snook has sadly passed away :( He had recently been sleeping for longer periods and last night he passed peacefully in his sleep. Thanks to his wonderful foster Mum, Snook enjoyed eight months of love and kindness whilst in Oldies Club care.

Sleep well Snook.

This lovely old boy is Snook and his story is a very sad one. He’s lived in the same home all his life, but recently his owner told us that he was moving and couldn’t take Snook with him. Oldies Club stepped in and even though we only had a matter of days to help him, we found him a lovely new foster home.

Snook travelled a long way to his foster family in West Wales and for a 13 year old German Shepherd who had just lost everything that was familiar to him, this must have been a big upheaval.

Sadly, when Snook arrived in our care, it was obvious that he was in discomfort and he was taken to the vets. The vet found a huge testicular tumour and a large mass in his stomach, which we were told was likely to be a splenic tumour. Nothing could be done for poor Snook, so he was given painkillers to make him comfortable and his distraught foster mum took him home to be spoiled for his last few days.

When we heard, a few days later, that Snook was improving and seemed to be pain-free, we were delighted! His foster mum reported that he had been enjoying regular strolls in her garden with her own dogs and was settling in quite nicely.

Every day is a blessing for Snook and while he’s with us he will be thoroughly spoiled. He’s quite a fussy eater, so he gets his very own home-made stews! He also has the pleasure of going out on every car journey with his foster mum, simply because he loves sitting in the back and watching the world go by.

Snook’s having regular walks now and gets very excited when he knows its time to go out. His foster mum says he’s come on in leaps and bounds and when they went to the vets recently Snook put his big front paws up on the receptionists desk to say hello!

We don’t know how long Snook has left, but he will stay in Oldies Club care for the rest of his days, so if you would like to help contribute to his upkeep, please consider taking part in our Sponsor Scheme.
