URGENT home appeal for a little terrier called Boxer

Oldies Club urgently need to find a new permanent foster home for Boxer, a 15 year old terrier who is currently in our care in Devon. Boxer is fit and healthy for his age, but he can be grumpy and seems to be finding it difficult to settle after the sad death of his owner – he was home alone for some time, with relatives popping in, which must have been a worrying time for him.

Boxer needs an understanding home with no other animals or children, that will give him a quiet place and time to settle in. Once he has settled, with an owner to devote himself to once again, we are sure that Boxer will be a charming companion.

We would prefer enquiries from people who have terrier experience, who are used to their quirks. Boxer will become a sponsor dog and all his vet bills will be covered by Oldies Club.

More about Boxer
Boxer was quite overwhelmed when he first arrived at his foster home and took a while to settle. He had a few accidents in the first few days but this seems to be because the house is large and open plan with wooden flooring, surrounded by decking, and Boxer didn’t seem realise which part was inside and which part was outside. In a smaller house he was completely clean.

Boxer came from a home where he was the companion of an elderly owner who was with him most of the time, but he is fine to be left for a few hours and just goes to sleep (preferably on the sofa!). But a home where he will not be alone all day would probably be easiest for him to accept. He is called ‘Boxer’ because he was born on Boxing Day!

Brilliant on walks: He walks beautifully by your side on a lead, and off the lead will follow happily a few paces behind. Boxer’s hearing is not too good so he doesn’t respond to his name, however if you clap your hands he will come straight back to you. He is very loyal and will follow his owner everywhere. Although we think Boxer needs a home without other animals, he is fine meeting other dogs out and about (though he is scared of boisterous dogs).

Good with chickens and ducks: Boxer is currently living with a foster carer who has chickens and ducks, and is very good around them.

Good in the car:
Boxer is very well behaved in the car, but we are told he can sometimes find longer journeys worrying.

Boxer’s favourite pastimes: Boxer likes to bury himself to go to sleep and will go to some lengths to make sure he is covered by his blanket with only his nose showing…he is so cute! He loves to go for a walk, sniffing all the way. He will bury his bones and often has his little nose covered in earth. He will chase a ball but not for long and not too far.

Boxer’s fears: He gets quite nervous around boisterous dogs. And he probably worries that he will be left again having lost his mistress and then having such a long time on his own.

Boxer’s perfect home: Boxer would be happiest in a home where he can be someone’s special baby. He is happiest on your lap or snuggled up next to you on a sofa. If he was allowed to sleep with you it would be his idea of heaven. This little chap just wants to be loved and is very loyal and loving in return. A quiet home with a single person or couple, where he can feel safe, would be wonderful for him, especially after all he has been through.
