Fosterers Needed

Have you got what it takes to be a fosterer for Oldies Club?

We rely on our fosterers to assess dogs in their home and advise us on what type of home the dog in their care needs. Fostering may be only for a couple of weeks, while any medical care is given and while the assessment is made – or it could be for months, until the ideal home comes up.

We take in dogs from all over the country – fosterers are needed everywhere – but we are especially low on fosterers in Wales, Scotland, the North and Kent areas. We are especially looking for pet-free foster homes and those willing to foster bull breeds and/or  larger dogs.

To become a fosterer please email fosterrecruit@oldies.org.uk and you will receive important  information about what we ask of fosterers. If you are still interested after reading what is involved, you will be sent an application form which will need to be completed and returned. If everything on your form seems suitable, we will arrange a home visit for you – which will involve a volunteer coming to meet everyone in your household, together with any pets you may have, where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have (these will be referred back to Oldies Club for a response). If successful you will be sent a welcome pack and a fostering contract and then you just need to wait for our foster placement volunteer to contact you when a suitable dog comes up which needs a place.

Fosterers are needed who will take the dog into different situations – meeting dogs on a walk, seeing how they behave with cats, and of course seeing how they react with children, traffic, travelling, at the vets etc. It is not just a case of feeding a dog and giving it a nice bed for a few weeks.

It can be difficult giving up the dog you have take care of for a few weeks – but the feeling of having helped it on it’s way or maybe even having helped save it’s life is so rewarding.

Unfortunately we rarely accept full time workers or people with very young children.

Fosterers will usually get the opportunity to adopt a dog they have been fostering if they wish to.

Our current fosterers are an amazing group of people – between them they have helped hundreds of dogs find their forever home.
