9 December 2013: Sadly we have had to say goodbye to our lovely sponsor Lab Ebony :-(

Ebony was such a gentleman, who touched many people whilst in our care. He was adopted and adored by an elderly lady who sadly passed away suddenly and Ebony returned to our care. He returned to his original fosterers who gave him a wonderful home over the last 8 months. Our thoughts are with his foster family, who are deeply saddened by losing him :-(

Sleep tight lovely boy.

**********

Ebony is a very handsome male black Labrador who is almost 16 years old. He has come back into Oldies Club care recently after the lovely lady who adopted him from us very sadly passed away.

Due to Ebony’s age and a number of health concerns, we have decided that it is in his best interest to remain as a sponsor dog in Oldies Club’s permanent foster care, with the charity covering his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Isn’t he handsome?

Ebony is currently being cared for by the family who originally fostered him, so he has returned to a familiar and loving environment. He has settled in well with the other dogs in his foster home.

He was very much loved by his late owner and very popular with those who met him through her. We are told that he became a favourite of other dog owners in the area because he is so gentle.

When his owner passed away, Ebony was invited back to attend a Celebration of her Life at the church where she had played the organ each week. His foster Mum took him along and he was made very welcome and enjoyed the attention and treats.

Ebony with some of his friends!

Ebony originally came into Oldies Club care after being a much loved pet. Unfortunately his family’s situation changed and he was being left for over 12 hours a day, so they reluctantly made the decision to rehome him. He was initially stressed at moving to his foster home and sought  reassurance and cuddles.

He is an easy going boy who is good with other dogs, though can be unhappy about boisterous ones who pester him. He is a perfect gentleman around cats and used to live with one. He is fostered in the country and pays no attention to farm animals. He has previously lived with small children and is said to be excellent with them, though he can be rather enthusiastic at taking treats. He travels well in the car and enjoys eating and being cuddled.

He is completely blind in his right eye as a result of an incident with a stick when he was younger; this does not affect him in any way. After coming into Oldies Club care originally, he had a non-malignant tumour removed from his abdomen.

Ebony’s recent vet records reveal that he has had innumerable stomach upsets and had collapsed on one occasion, following which he was prescribed Aktivait. He has very bad arthritis and has now completed a course of Cartrophen injections which have helped somewhat so he is able to go on some of the easier walks with the other dogs in his foster home. He really enjoyed a recent outing to Barry Island and found walking on the sand much easier so he is off on holiday to Devon later in the year.

On a visit to the vet upon returning to Oldies’ care she could feel some thickening in his abdomen. We do not however wish to put him through any invasive procedures, given his age and general health.

The lovely boy recently stayed with another of our fosterers for a few days while his family were away – he was described as the perfect visitor and has been told he’s welcome back anytime :-)
