22/06/18 Tasha has sadly passed away. She had been unwell for a couple of weeks. She was a fiesty little dog to the end but sadly her heart and lungs suddenly couldn’t cope anymore. Sleep tight lovely girl.
Tasha is a sensitive 17 year old Bichon Frise x Norfolk Terrier who came into Oldies Club care in March 2017 after one of her owners passed away and the other was unfortunately too ill to continue to care for her.
When she first arrived in Oldies Club care she didnt want to be left at all and wasnt at all keen on being handled which was rather problematic as she arrived with a skin condition. Due to unfortunate circumstances in her previous home Tasha had ended up being left alone a lot of the time and had developed separation anxiety.
Due to her sensitive nature and age, Oldies Club made the decision to place Tasha in our sponsor dog scheme, which means she will remain at her lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying her vet bills for the rest of her life.
Her fosterer says since her arrival that each day Tasha is taking tiny steps forward with her separation anxiety. She is now able to go tend her ponies and leave Tasha for the short time without her screaming the house down. Also Tasha sometimes chooses to stay indoors while her fosterer is outside.
The one thing Tasha adores is walkies. She gets very excited at walk time and has jumped up on fosterer’s leg in her excitement.
Tasha is still not keen on being handled and will never be a cuddly dog. However her fosterer was delighted at a recent breakthrough after they were caught in a shower when out on a walk. When they got she picked up a towel and dried Tasha off and she just stood there. Tasha now lets her fosterer stroke her post walk with both hands and she has even allowed her to stroke her head. Tasha’s fosterer is trying to make any handling a positive experience for her.
Even though Tasha is 17 she has become increasing playful and recently everyday one week they had a play session where she ran to and fro whilst her fosterer clapped her hands. Sometimes her fosterer will hide and Tasha will come to find her. She does all this with a wagging tail.
