19/10/19 Sadly after only 7 months in our care our lovely boy let us know he was ready to go and slipped away peacefully in the arms of his fantastic fosterers. Sleep tight lovely Ronnie xx

Ronnie is a sweet 12 year old Cocker Spaniel boy who arrived in Oldies Club care in March 2019 as his owner was working long hours and couldnt dedicate the care he needed.

When Ronnie first arrived he had an eye infection and was pretty matted but otherwise seemed in good health. A trip to the groomers to free him of his tangled locks and the vet for eye drops and he was feeling so much better.

He settled in quickly with the resident dog and assessment was well under way on finding out about Ronnie’s personality and what sort of home we would be looking for him. Unfortunately pre-op bloods before his neutering brought up a nasty shock. Sadly Ronnie is in stage 3 kidney failure and his kidneys are beyond hope.  He will be supported with a prescription diet and medication.

Due to his health concerns and unknown time left, Oldies Club made the decision to place Ronnie in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Thankfully although he is rather poorly Ronnie is completely oblivious to this fact. He is such a happy boy and his tail is always wagging.

Not surprisingly being a Cocker Spaniel, Ronnie loves his food.  His fosterers often do some training with him to get a treat. He may be old but he is still keen to learn.  They also hide smelly treats around the room and he enjoys using his nose to sniff them out.

Ronnie’s advanced age doesn’t hold him back and he is full of energy on walks and loves taking in all the sights and smells. He is also brilliant with people and dogs inside and outside the home.  He just loves walking along smelling everything but stays very close. His recall is okay, but as he stays by his fosterers side it doesn’t cause any issue on walks, as long as he can see his fosterers he is happy.

He also enjoys a game of fetch with a tennis ball, although he is still perfecting his “drop”.

Sadly Ronnie’s kidneys could give out at any moment but he is not going to worry about a little thing like that. He will enjoy lots of fun and love in his foster home for the rest of the time he has.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Ronnie or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
