22/11/2021 – We are so sad to share the news that Hector has had to be put to sleep. He has been such a little trooper and he will be very much missed by his wonderful foster carer.
———–

Hector is a lovely 15 year old Terrier X who came into our care in July 2021 after his owner sadly passed away.
When Hector first arrived it became quickly obvious he was rather deaf. His legs were weak and his coat a little scruffy. He found is rather difficult to sit and lie down which suggested he was suffering with joint pain. A vet visit showed that his bad back legs were possibly caused by spondylosis and  also causing him to not have great co-ordination. He also was diagnosed with dementia. Blood tests showed he had kidney disease stage 2. He was prescribed with Gabapentin & Vitofyllin. He also been provided with renal food and Pronefra.
Due to his multiple health issues and age, Oldies Club made the decision to place Hector in our sponsor dog scheme, which means he will remain at his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.
When Hector first arrived his fosterer slept downstairs with him for a week and she was concerned he was rather poorly. He would often lose his balance from time to time but getting stronger wasnt going to happen overnight. He would lick his fosterers hand when being cuddled. Hector occasionally has accidents in the house so will wear a nappy at night. This doesnt phase him at all.
Hector showed he was feeling better, as after his fosterer had been shopping and was putting it away, she spotted him walking off with a loaf of bread in his mouth.
Hector is cheeky strong willed boy who is determined to be independent. He has found his voice and happy to use it to beg.

Hector’s walking is improving daily but Oldies Club have provided him with a stroller for his worse days. He has even started to attempt to climb onto the sofa.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Hector, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
