Smudge is a match made in heaven!

We have heard from the lovely adopter of our very special Great Dane boy, Smudge:

“I lost my wife and my harlequin Great Dane Sophie last year and although I really would have liked another Great Dane, I thought I may be too old to adopt another dog. However I came across Smudge an eight year old Great Dane on the Oldies web site purely by accident, after a few days of cogitation I sent in an enquiry about Smudge. I received a lot of encouragement from my good friend and within a week all the necessary forms and inspections had been carried out and I was told that I could adopt Smudge.

I went to collect him from Nottingham two days later with two friends and I am sure there was an immediate affinity between Smudge and myself. He jumped in my car and settled down for the ride to his new home with no problem. When we got to my bungalow, he went straight inside and explored all round and then settled himself on the settee beside me which immediately became his preferred place. He does have a bed in the lounge and my bedroom which he makes use of when he wishes.

He comes for a cuddle first thing in the morning and then we go for a walk in the nearby park. He walks and behaves well and will make friends with people and other dogs. We were warned that he gets very upset if another dog barks at him and has to be held very firmly as he is extremely strong if this happens, he does not start it but only responds.

Smudge is a very loving dog, well mannered and even at his age is a quick learner. He brings me a lot of joy and I am sure this is reciprocal. My friend tells me this a match made in heaven.”

Isn’t that a wonderful update? We are absolutely overjoyed for Smudge and his new person – it truly sounds like an adoption that was meant to be. Thank you for offering Smudge his ideal home, and our very best wishes to you both!
