Hello, I am Sammy, a black Labrador boy, who came into the care of Oldies Club in July 2023, when my previous owner was moving without taking me with them. Unfortunately, as I arrived in Oldies Club care, it was immediately obvious that I wasn’t in the best condition. I had poorly ears, long nails and lumps on various parts of my body 
I was eating and drinking okay, but I was feeling very shut down and subdued, which is sadly far from the usual “Joy of life” Labrador behaviour.
I have had a number of vet visits this month and Oldies Club has received a vet bill for £2941.05! This is a rather large amount for a small charity to find for just one of the dogs in its care – though it feels I am very much worth it – so I have set up a fundraising page – please CLICK HERE – with some assistance from a volunteer, in the hope that dog lovers will be kind and generous enough to donate towards these costs.
My vet treatment has included having a dental procedure and further procedures for lumps checking and removed. I was also X-rayed, which confirmed I have elbow dysplasia. The vet said my elbows are in very poor condition, with arthritis and degeneration, but I have been prescribed medication for ongoing pain management, which should allow me to live out my twilight years quite comfortably.
I have been having a few rest days at home, following the vet visits, and am very glad indeed to have been able to return to my lovely foster home. I have started settling in and feeling happier about life and just this week my fosterer has noticed I’ve started looking for fuss, after not really wanting to interact. I’m very glad to be in a loving home environment now, thanks to my fosterers and Oldies Club.
