Apprehensive Tiny (Oldies Club Sponsor Dog)

Tiny is an 11 years old JRT who came into Oldies Club care in August 2024 as her owner could no longer take care of her. She arrived with her mum Molly after being in kennels for six month prior.

When they first arrived they spent a couple of hours rushing around the garden and getting into everything. Possibly after a stint in kennels they were rather exciting to be back in a home environment. They seemed to settle well and spent their first night snuggled up together on the sofa.

Although brilliant in the home from their first walk it was noticeable that the pair were lacking in social skills, mostly Tiny. As soon as she would see another dog on a walk she would pull towards the dog barking /yelping/lunging. Any dog she could see even at a short distance. Due to reactiveness the charity approached a behaviourist for help. A plan was put in place but it was felt that her reactiveness stemmed from Tiny having anxiety. The fosterer continues to work with the behaviourist to help Tiny and there have been small signs of improvement.

Quickly after arrival Tiny became very attached to the male fosterer who was quite poorly at the time – she rarely left his side. Sadly he passed away six months after their arrival and this unfortunately negatively impacted her leading to massive separation anxiety.

Due to Tiny’s severe anxiety Oldies Club made the decision to place her in our sponsor dog scheme which means she will remain at her lovely foster home where she feels safe on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills and behavioural support for the rest of her life. Her fosterer has adopted Molly so the pair will stay together.

Tiny is certainly well named. She is a teeny tiny Jack with loads of character. Inside the home she is very sweet but the outside world is too much for her. Tiny and her mum are a bonded pair and can often be found snuggling up together.
Due to her reactiveness with other dogs apart from Molly walkies can be a very stressful time.  Tiny seems much happier in her garden which is big and full of interest. Her fosterer provides toys that treats are hidden in and Tiny enjoys all that. They are however taken to a secure field regularly where both dogs can have relaxed off lead time without the worry of other dogs.
Tiny has shown signs of having a luxating patella which causes her to hobble and hop when out walking off lead. To assist with this she regularly attends hydrotherapy sessions to held build up the muscles in the hind leg which is affected.

Their fosterer loves both Molly & Tiny and they have been there helping her to get through some dark days since her husband passed away after a lengthy illness. She is still adjusting to a different life without him but the dogs are providing as much support to her and she does for them.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Tiny, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
