Thomas is a 12 years old Yorkie who came into Oldies Club care in September 2024 after his owner passed away. When he first arrived he settled in quickly exploring the house and asking for cuddles from his fosterer. He even rolled on his back for a belly rub so the change in his circumstances hadn’t impacted him too badly thankfully.

At his first vet appointment Thomas seemed to be in relatively good health apart from having an infection due to bad teeth and needed to have a dental. He also have a luxating patella which is common in the breed which causes him to limp sometimes. X-rays revealed that he had had issues with his cruciate ligament in both rear legs.

Thomas seemed to be doing well despite these few issues when suddenly one of his eyes went completely white. He was referred to an eye specialist to investigate the issue. The investigation revealed he does not have cataracts and the white eye was due to problems with his liver. Normal liver enzyme levels are 100 and Thomas’ were around 800 meaning his blood was full of lipids which glow in the eye fluid causing the appearance. He had also unfortunately rubbed the eye causing an ulcer. Treatment for his liver was then looked into. The poor little chap had a lot going on and then he began wheezing really badly and was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea.

Due to his increasing medical issues and increasing vet costs, it was decided that Thomas would be placed in our sponsor dog scheme. This means he will remain in his lovely foster home on a permanent basis, with the charity paying his vet bills for the rest of his life.

Thomas is definitely a Thomas. He refuses to answer to Tom, Tommy or anything else.

Thomas really enjoys his walkies. He sometimes goes out for walks with a neighbour’s dog and although there appears to be little interest between the pair they are quite happy to potter along together.  He is a little unpredictable with other dogs he meets when out and can be wary of large / boisterous dogs as he is only a teeny little chap.

He enjoys being out in the garden when his fosterer is gardening or just keeping her company when she is outside enjoying the good weather with a coffee. Thomas also enjoys sitting in the window watching the world go by. He is a rather nosey little dog.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor Thomas, or one of the other special oldies we are caring for in our sponsor dog scheme.
