7/8/18 – After a period of ill health, Will has sadly passed away. He had been very much loved and well cared for by the lovely people at Freshfields. Rest in peace, Will.

Will is an 8 year old Terrier Cross who was rehomed by Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool, in September 2017, but he has sadly been returned. Freshfields are devastated for Will and hope he finds the right home very soon.

Will is such a big character and is a real favourite among the staff and dog walkers. He has not had the best of luck since originally finding himself in rescue due to his owner’s ill health. He went to a foster home where he was for several months without any problems. He was then adopted but was only there for a short time and was returned due to possession and guarding issues. Unfortunately Will’s foster carer is not in a position to take him back now and so Will is in kennels.

Will is a generally a very friendly and sociable dog who has no issues meeting new people or dogs. However, in the home, he can be possessive and will guard his food. In his last home there was an incident where he was asleep and was woken up suddenly and started snapping. On other occasions he would bite if another member of the family walked past when he was sat near his owner on the sofa. This seemed to be an attempt to protect his owner. Freshfields’ behaviourist feels there was too much inconsistency in Will’s routine with regard to the other members of the family and so Will would be best suited to a home with just one person. Will also has issues with the doorbell ringing and will panic when you go to leave the room. During these times he will need to be locked away in a separate room.

Due to all of the upheaval Will has endured recently he sadly also suffers with separation anxiety, however in his last home his owner managed to build him up to being left alone for a few hours. Poor Will is clearly an anxious and insecure boy who needs a kind and patient owner. He needs an adult-only home, preferably one with few visitors and with no visiting children.

Will’s new owner must be prepared to make several trips to Freshfields to learn about his behaviour before committing to adopting him. And Will will need gentle introductions to his new home, and an owner prepared to work with Freshfields’ behaviourist from day one. Will has been found to have a grade 2-3 heart murmur but this does not cause him any problems at the moment.

Although Will is sociable with dogs on walks, he would be best suited to being the only pet in the home due to his history of guarding items.

Will’s whole world has turned upside down once again and understandably he is upset to find himself back in kennels. He is a sweet boy who is super loyal and has so much potential, but he needs a very experienced home with someone who can help him overcome his fears.
