Loui is an adorable 11yr old Jack Russell Terrier currently in Oldies Club foster care in Penrith, Cumbria. A much loved pet until recently, but sadly his owner is no longer able to care for him due to health issues. We are sure he will be very popular !
Introduction: Loui is an energetic little chap who loves his walks and getting out and about. He would adore an active home where he could accompany his humans on days out (he adores trips in the car) and where he could be part of the action. He’d prefer an adult home, with any visiting children being older. Although good with dogs, his foster carer feels he would be in his element as an only dog, getting all the attention.

Settled gradually into foster home: Loui took about 2 weeks to settle into his foster home. Initially he barked a bit when he was left but now settles well with the other resident dog and has been left for a maximum of 3 hours….. a good boy biscuit usually does the trick !
Likes his humans to be around: Loui would not suit owners that go out to work and leave him regularly. He adores company and likes his people around most of the time.
Would love to be an only dog: Loui has been living with a small female dog in foster and he has been fine. He does sometimes get a little jealous when he has to share attention but never reacts or responds, just a little grumble. They wander around the garden together, but he is more than happy to do his own thing. His foster carer feels that Loui would be happiest as an only dog, so we are seeking a home where he will be your beloved only one.

Unknown with cats: Loui isn’t living with a cat and it’s unknown what he would be like, but felt that he is a typical terrier and would chase anything furry, so a cat free home is preferred.
Prefer an adult home: Loui would like a child free home, but would be happy with older visiting children. He mixes with grandchildren in his foster home and can get excited and jump up at the start, and although he then settles, loud noises or sudden movements startle him and he often starts barking. Once he gets to know them and they are aware of what worries him, he will be fine.

Loves his walks: Loui lives for his walks. He may have little legs, but boy can they move ! His fosterer calls him the Duracell Bunny ! – He walks nicely on his flexi lead and keeps to heel with no pulling. He loves his treats, so with some training and work on his recall he could be fine to be let off in quiet enclosed areas.
Lou is currently having a 1 hour walk in the morning and ½ hour in the evening, with time in the garden during the day. He has been out for longer walks of up to 3 hours and that was no problem for him. He is certainly good for his age and would thrive will equally active new owners.

Good in the car: Loui loves trips out in the car and happily jumps in. He likes to be up front as co pilot, restrained with his harness.

Favourite pastimes : Loui loves strokes and affection, liking nothing better than to curl up on a lap and be close to you. Going on walks too, his treats and just being part of whatever you are doing all make Loui a very happy boy.
Little frightens him: Loui is a confident boy out and about and very little worries him. He can be a bit unsure of new people arriving in the home, but he usually greets them enthusiastically, even if accompanied by a little bark.

Loui’s ideal home: Loui would like a reasonably quiet household where his new owners are also active and like to walk and go on adventures that he can accompany them on. He has been out to a cafe and sat quietly under the table and was no trouble. His fosterer feels he would love a family that might go camping or cavanning as he loves to travel in the car.
Sleeps well at night: Loui currently sleeps in his comfy bed outside his fosters bedroom door, BUT he would absolutely like to share your bed with you if thats what you wanted ! He snoozes well all through the night until woken at 7am.

Health notes: Loui is vaccinated, microchipped and flea treated. He has no health concerns and in fact the vet has remarked what good condition he was in for an 11 year old. He does have some plaque on his rear teeth and a small skin tag on his body, but no treatment was recommended.
Four adjectives that sum up Loui from his fosterer : Happy, lively little character.
More from Loui’s fosterer: “Loui is such a sweet dog who likes nothing better than snuggling up to you on the sofa and will follow you round all day. He does have his own opinion of things though, and will bark and tell you if he thinks it is time for his dinner or if he wants attention or gets excited. He is an easy companion, happy to travel or go out for walks – a lively little character for his age.”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
