21/3/13 Kenny has very sadly had to be put to sleep today. Our thoughts are with his lovely foster carer. Sleep tight Kenny.

Kenny is a cute 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier boy who came into Oldies Club care because his owner was terminally ill. Kenny is in an Oldies Club foster home in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Settled quickly; Happy to be left: Kenny settled at his foster home almost immediately. He is happy to be left alone for a few hours and is no problem so long as no food or sweeties are within reach! Kenny would be suitable to live with full-time workers, provided he had someone visit to take him out for a good break at lunchtime.
Fine with dogs: Kenny ignores dogs, although he will have a bark at big dogs. If walked with other dogs Kenny just does his own thing. He lived with another dog until recently in his previous home.
Doesn’t like cats: Kenny needs a home without cats.
OK with sensible older children: Kenny barks at children to start with. He will sometimes play chase for a short time but then prefers to be left alone. He should be OK to live with older, sensible children that understand being told to leave dogs alone, but he would probably be happiest in a home where children only visit. He wouldn’t tolerate pestering.
Well behaved on walks: Kenny is excellent on the lead and has good recall, though he is slightly deaf. His current walking schedule is: 5 minutes before breakfast to do what’s needed, and then 15 – 20 minutes, later, and then 20 – 30 minutes at teatime. If you have time to take him for 40 minutes to an hour, for example at the weekend, he loves it!
Good in the car: He loves being in the car. He is happy to get in, looks about for a while and then goes to sleep.
Kenny’s favourite pastimes: Eating and sleeping!
Kenny’s dislikes: He’s not keen on gunshots or bird scarers, but otherwise Kenny’s foster carer hasn’t noticed anything else that frightens him.
Kenny’s perfect home: Somewhere quiet where he can snuggle up close to someone and sleep.
Health notes: Kenny is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He has been vet checked and is on Vetmedin for a heart murmur. He had very waxy ears but these are improving with regular cleaning out.
Foster carer’s summary of Kenny: “Kenny is a loving, cheeky old man! He enjoys sleeping, but out on walks he is quite lively and ‘canters’ everywhere. He is also very inquisitive and can be quite cheeky. He is a little deaf but sometimes he plays on it I am sure… you can see a look in his eye while he weighs up if he should listen or NOT! Sometimes he likes a mad five minutes chasing about the house and loves to pop up stairs if he can. He is quite agile and fit for an old guy. He is a joy and good company.”
