Hunter is an 8-year-old Pug who came into the Oldies Club rescue after he started finding the other dog he lived with just too annoying. He’s in a foster home in Chippenham, Wiltshire, waiting for someone worthy of his cuteness to find him.
Settled in well: Hunter quickly got used to the routine at his foster home. At first he slept on his foster carer’s bed at night but he can now happily sleep downstairs, like the brave boy he is.
Prefers company: Hunter can be left occasionally for up to a couple of hours. He really loves company though, and wants a home where there’s usually someone around for him. He’s very friendly with everyone he meets as he loves people!
Only pet please: Hunter is pretty good with other dogs when out and about, generally ignoring them. He’s fine to go on walks with other dogs he knows. He just doesn’t want to share his home and his humans with any! He hasn’t been cat tested so it’s safest to assume he’s not a cat person.
Teenage children only: Hunter has previously lived with children but he can be touchy about having his rear end touched so it’s thought that he could live with respectful teenagers, who will be careful of his sensibilities, or just grown-ups.
Good boy on walks: Hunter loves his walks and is an energetic boy but is good on the lead. His previous owners said he had good recall but he’s been kept on the lead since being in rescue, on the off-chance he lives up to his name and goes off hunting! He’s currently having one walk per day of a half to three-quarters of an hour, plus playtime in the garden. He’d be very happy to go for two or more walks per day though, being an intrepid explorer.
OK in the car: He is best travelling harnessed on the back seat of the car. He whines for a short time but soon settles down. His foster carer took him for a 2-hour drive and Hunter was OK.
Hunter’s favourite pastimes: Eating; playing with his ball and dumbbell toy; snoozing on his foster carer’s lap.
Hunter’s dislikes: Out on his walk, Hunter is not too keen when buses and lorries go past. He’s also not a fan of the vacuum cleaner. We were told that Hunter once had an abscess near his bottom, which the vet lanced without any anaesthetic! Since that experience, if his bottom gets knocked by accident, he can lash out in fear.
Hunter’s ideal home: He would love to live with someone who is home most of the time for company and he must have a nice garden to play in. He currently enjoys playing football with the resident teenagers at his foster home.
Health notes: Hunter is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and worm/flea treated. He passed his vet check with flying colours. His previous owner told us that Hunter once had a mast cell tumour removed, so to keep a look out for lumps, just in case.
More from Hunter’s foster carer: “Hunter is active, observant and alert. He likes his food and is not fussy with it. He enjoys an occasional treat, especially after being left, and also when he has been outside to do his business. I found he settles better when left if you give him a few treats chopped up small and sprinkled in his bed. He likes to play with a ball I bought for him and also a dumbbell type squeaky toy. He will go in his crate if I need to have him under control when tradesmen come to the house.”

He can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.
