Update 13/2/2009
Kye has shown himself not happy in a multi-dog home, and is now having to be kept separate from the other dogs in his fosterers home. He urgently needs a home as an only dog as soon as possible. Due to illness in the family, his foster carers are struggling with the situation. Can you help?

Kye is seeking either an experienced permanent or foster home which can continue with his training.

2/4/09 – AARU have sent us this very sad update on Kye….”Sadly, Kye was a victim of his breeding, indifference by his previous owners and many, many months of pain and suffering with his eye condition. He developed into a possessive, aggressive and dangerous dog and no amount of care, behavioural training and attention could repair the damage to his mental health. Rest now in peace, Kye- so much loved by your foster parents and wept for by those who knew of your torment”

This adorable, wrinkly face belongs to Kye, a 7 year old brush-coat Shar Pei who has come into the care of Animal Accident Rescue Unit in Nottinghamshire, via the dog warden when the kennels he was staying in wouldn’t pay for the urgent treatment that he needed to both eyes.

Kye was suffering from a condition called ‘entropion’ which means both his eyelids were growing inwards. This affected both eyes and meant that life was very miserable and painful for him. Thankfully Kye has received the treatment that he needed from a specialist ophthalmic surgeon, thanks to AARU and kind donations.
He has recovered very well, but is left with poor eyesight because he had suffered with the condition for so long.

This beautiful boy needs a home with people who will give him the love and care that he needs. He is more confident now and quite protective of his foster home which is a typical trait of his breed, so a home with experienced Shar Pei owners would be preferable.

He is a good boy when out for a walk and doesn’t really take notice of other dogs. A cat free home would be needed.

He loves to be with people and will make a very loving companion for his new family. He is able to be left and is not destructive. Kye has also been vaccinated and neutered.

Isn’t he just gorgeous? – he has been through so much and now really needs to find peace in a settled home where he will be cherished.
