17/10/11 We’ve heard very sad news about poor Bernard: he has had to be put to sleep following recent surgery. Sleep tight Bernard.

Bernard is a 12 year old Boxer who is in the care of the RSPCA Macclesfield due to his owners relationship breakdown. Sadly, for some time since the break-up, Bernard has been kept outside, which obviously isn’t ideal for a dog of his age.

Bernard was scared when he first arrived in rescue. His owner did not want to be around which meant poor Bernard was all alone in the garden when the inspectors went to collect him. He didn’t know what was going on and was understandably fearful as he didn’t know what their intentions were. Poor Bernard.

Bernard is a very friendly boy and likes to play with you and run around. He loves walks, but doesn’t need long hikes! He’s good around food and toys and is housetrained.

Bernard is good with other dogs. The RSPCA would rather him go to a child free home due to his age, but he can be rehomed with another dog if they get on well together. He’s never lived with cats.

Bernard has been wormed, flea treated, micro-chipped and vaccinated. Typical of age he has a lump or two and several skin tags, but he is in good health and his teeth are good. He has a little muscle wastage on his back legs probably due to not being exercised often, but he is in very good condition. He is not castrated but the RSPCA are not going to put him through the operation as it wouldn’t be fair on him.

RSPCA Macclesfield tell us: It’s so incredibly sad that Bernard is in kennels at his time of life; he should not be here! Please find it in your heart to give him a retirement home where he can snuggle up for a cuddle and a slobbery kiss!
