Mika is a beautiful Akita who is currently in boarding kennels in Derbyshire until somewhere more permanent can be found with the help of SOS Animals UK.

Mika is approximately 10 years old and is female. She is slate grey, black and white in colour and is 75cm high and weighs 32kg.

Mika has had a tough time lately. She was originally found as a stray in Nottingham and was rehomed from the dog pound. She lived with her owner for 3 years until he recently passed away unexpectedly.

Mika is a real sweetheart. She is sensitive and can be very affectionate, however, it is on her terms! Some days she prefers to keep herself to herself and can be aloof, but most of the time she comes up for cuddles and kisses! She is very gentle and doesn’t jump up and she is generally quiet and very well behaved. She will settle very quickly in a home environment, and just needs a strong, loving owner to give her the retirement home she deserves.

Mika loves going for a walk, but prefers short walks, little and often. She walks well on a lead after she has settled down from the excitement! She is polite when she meets other dogs.

Mika is a little weak on her hind legs so the rescue will be looking into treatment for this soon. She cannot be rehomed with cats or small furries. Although Mika is not dog aggressive, she’d be better homed as an only dog as this is what she is used to. Mika can be homed with understanding, mature children over 7.
