27/08/18 – Charlie has been adopted, having been spotted on Oldies Club! Hooray!

Calm and friendly Charlie is a 7 to 8 year old Boxer cross, who’s being rehomed by a private rescuer called Angela. He’s in foster care in Tameside, Greater Manchester but his carer is out at work a lot of the time so it’s quite urgent that Charlie finds his forever home. He needs to be an only pet at home. He’d be happy living with older, dog savvy children…as long as he gets plenty of nap time!

He finds himself in need of a new owner because his previous one wanted him to be a fighting dog but Charlie didn’t want to fight! So, rejected for being a pacifist, he finds other dogs a bit of a worry now and just wants to love and be loved by people.

He has been walked with a female dog, almost side by side, and he had no reaction until she had a wee and scratched up the dust. The noise made him jump, bless him! At the vets another dog barked at him and he tried to run the other way. It’s thought that he could be socialised in a very careful and controlled way, once he feels secure.

He walks nicely on lead but hasn’t yet been walked off lead because of his fear of other dogs. If a dog approaches he will pull to go to the dog, thinking he might need to protect himself, but he will come away easily. He’s a biddable boy and good in the car too.

Charlie likes being fussed, with strokes and tummy tickles. He doesn’t like being overpowered with cuddles and kisses, and will turn and move away if he feels uncomfortable. What he really loves is being talked to and getting as close to you as possible!

Charlie is a Good Boy in the house. He can be left for around 4 hours and will just settle in for snooze. Sleeping is one of his favourite pastimes. There’s nothing more relaxing to hear than a contented Boxer, snoring away!

Poor old Charlie had been neglected in the past and, it’s thought, kicked. He’s been treated and has recovered from a severe ear infection as well as an abscess in a very sensitive area. He’s all better now though! He’s vaccinated and will be neutered before he’s rehomed.

Angela, his rescuer, has confirmed that she would take him back if his adoption didn’t work out for any reason. Charlie has a lovely temperament though. As long as he can keep his distance from other dogs and have people to snuggle up to, he’ll be happy forever!
