3/1/19 – Ruby has found a new home!

This little gem is Ruby and she is an 8 year old, brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is being fostered in Bedford, Bedfordshire. Her owner had a change in circumstances and, sadly, could no longer keep her, but she is used to living in a family environment with adults and children.

Ruby is a well-mannered lady, calm and good natured. She wasn’t taught any commands other than her name, but it doesn’t make too much difference as she always answers to her name. Ruby is an affectionate dog and will wag her tail and grunt with excitement when she sees you. She is calm in the home and loves to be in your company and will sit by your feet.

Ruby is used to being left at home for up to 6 hours and is always clean in the house. She has previously lived with children and travels well in the car. Ruby is easy to walk on and off-leash using a harness and stays close by. She picks up a new routine fast and her recall is excellent. She avoids other dogs through fear, not aggression. Due to this, Ruby would prefer to be the only dog and will definitely make up for it as she has the love and affection of ten dogs. She ignores cats and shows no interest in the one in her foster home, but again would prefer to be the only pet in the home for all that lovely attention.

Don’t let Ruby’s age put you off, she is an active little dog and can probably carry on walking until your legs drop off! Also don’t let her breed put you off as she is a massive softy. Ruby is very clean and has a short coat. There is no need to bathe her and brushing can be done once a week as she does not shed much. She does not play with toys or chase a ball.

Ruby is spayed, chipped and vaccinated. She has Primary Adipsia which means she does not have a thirst response. This is something that is evident in that Ruby does not drink water voluntarily. Ruby would need to be taken to the vet sooner than an average dog if she suffers from vomiting or diarrhoea. Water can be added to her dry food to increase water intake. She has a small cyst on her back which has been vet checked and the vet is not concerned about it, just keep an eye on it.

Ruby is being rehomed privately by her foster carer, Preeya, who has confirmed that she would take her back if her new home didn’t work out for any reason. Prospective adopters will be home-checked.
