18/07/18 – Ruby has gone to her new home. Yay!

Beautiful Ruby is a 9 year old grey and white Alaskan Malamute girl who finds herself at RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre near Taunton, Somerset. She has been transferred from another RSPCA branch after sadly spending too long in kennels patiently waiting for a quiet retirement home.

Ruby is a delightful girl who has become a firm favourite with staff at West Hatch. She has the fabulous quirky behaviours of Malamutes, not least her willingness to ‘talk’ when she wants attention or treats.

Ruby has developed spondylosis, a back condition, in her old age which can make her a little sensitive to handling. She needs gentle exercise – regular walks being her preferred option. Ruby is looking for a quiet home with owners who have experience of Malamutes and who have a garden where she can potter and enjoy her autumn years. She has reached an age where she doesn’t want the company of other dogs, and she doesn’t like cats, so needs to be your only pet.

Ruby is having Yumove, a bone and joint supplement, which West Hatch advise you continue giving her (or an equivalent dog joint supplement) long-term. It is likely that Ruby will get flare-ups of back stiffness or pain that will require veterinary attention. She also has broken the tips off her canine teeth. They are not causing her any problems currently but if they do in the future they may need to be removed. Ruby is neutered.

Is your home worthy of wondrous Ruby?
