7/1/20 – We are so pleased to hear that gorgeous Doris has found a home!

Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool are heartbroken for 13-year-old Lurcher girl Doris, back in their care after 4 years in a loving home. Doris has been so unlucky – read her story below and perhaps you could help her. She needs to be your only pet in a home without children and she needs someone home for most of the day.

Doris is one of those dogs who, simply through bad luck, has yet to find her happy-ever-after. She has come close several times but each time it has been cruelly snatched away from her.

Doris was originally abandoned at Freshfields late one winter night in 2013. They were horrified to discover her, having been forced into a small animal pen and left alone and cold in the dark. After such a cruel start, Doris became deeply attached to those who showed her kindness, so much so that she would be extremely distressed when they had to leave her.

Doris soon won the hearts of a family of dog walkers who regularly went to Freshfields to take her for walks, and so after weeks of building a bond they decided to adopt her. Sadly, after just one week with her new family, it became apparent that Doris could not live with children and so she was returned.

Then several months later Doris found a lovely home with a retired couple, but after just 5 months the gentleman suddenly passed away and the lady could not cope on her own, so Doris returned once more. After so much upheaval and heartbreak, landing back in kennels was traumatic for both Doris and the kennel staff. Doris really struggled and Freshfields desperately needed to find her another home. They launched an appeal in the local paper and a very kind man came forward to offer Doris the home she needed.

And so for the last four and a half years Doris has been truly loved and doted on by her dad, but tragically he has recently been battling a terminal illness and has now had to go into hospital. Poor Doris had nowhere to go and so Freshfields have managed to squeeze her in so that she is safe with them. They are absolutely full to bursting at this time of year but they could not turn her away.

Poor Doris is now around 13 years old and she is so bewildered by recent events. She misses her dad so much, and kennels are no place for her. And Doris’s dad will be just as devastated as Freshfields are, knowing his special, beloved companion is back in kennels. Doris desperately needs a stable, retirement home to help heal her broken heart.

Doris cannot live with other animals or children and she needs someone around for most of the day. This is a big ask, but there has to be someone out there who can help poor Doris.

Could you offer Doris the quiet forever home she needs?
